Special Instructional Programs

Aims Honors Program

The Aims Honors Program is open to any strongly committed student, regardless of prior Honors experience. Students who graduate from Honors programs typically enjoy improved access to scholarships and university Honors programs, as well as attractive employment opportunities. The Honors Program mission is to provide challenges for and reward students by encouraging them to engage in rigorous courses, leadership experiences, and community involvement. Any student may take an Honors class; the only prerequisite is strong commitment to learning. For more information, please see the Honors Program web site at www.aims.edu/honors

Intensive English Language Program (IELP)

The Aims Intensive English Language Program is both a bridge to many educational opportunities and a pathway to professional achievement. It avails both international students and community residents with learning opportunities that are provided in a safe, diverse and productive environment. Students in the Intensive English Language Program can expect to be positively challenged, immersed in an English language milieu and engaged in both interactive and structured activities. This program is intended for students who wish to achieve academically and to advance in coursework at Aims or other institutions of higher learning. Contact: Lucia Gonzales, 970.339.6634, lucia.gonzales@aims.edu.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

The Introduction to the Intensive English Language Program, or ESL, is designed to prepare our community residents for full access to our community college and for the Intensive English Language Program. Students from our community will be expected to improve their reading, writing, grammar, and individual listening and speaking skills. The goal is to promote and build English language competencies in students for personal, social, educational and/or professional purposes.

Regardless of whether a student is in an introductory or an advanced course, our ultimate goal is to offer students the necessary support to become bilingual professionals. Contact: Lucia Gonzales, 970.339.6634, lucia.gonzales@aims.edu.

International Programs

By attracting students from all over the world to pursue their studies at Aims, the college strives to increase its diversity. International students from throughout Latin America, Asia, and Europe have attended Aims. While attaining a quality education at Aims, international students benefit from the unique opportunity to study at a small, friendly college in beautiful Northern Colorado. In addition, international students bring a wealth of cultural experience to our American students. Because many of our American students have not yet had the chance to travel abroad, taking classes and socializing with international students helps enrich their educational experience and cultural knowledge as well. The connections made between the international students, American students, and Aims faculty and staff broadens everyone’s educational and professional perspectives by opening up the opportunity for cultural exchanges through Study Abroad or Teach Abroad programs and by forging international friendships that can last a lifetime.
