Return to: Services for Students
The Transition Center provides students with the necessary tools and experiences to ease the transition into college and pave the way to academic success, graduation, and entry into the workplace or transfer to another institution. The Transitions Center includes both the First-Year Experience and Career and Transfer Services.
The mission of the First-Year Experience (FYE) is to create and sustain an environment that supports a successful academic and social transition of students into the Aims community. FYE provides space for studying, academic support, and we even have a few computer stations (sorry, no printing). If you are a new student, take advantage of these programs designed specifically for you.
New Student Orientation
Aims offers on-campus orientation for all new and transfer students. This free one-time class is designed for students who have completed the admission and class registration process. Orientation is offered at all campuses and includes: find-your-classes tours, book buying information, Student ID, parking, understanding the syllabus, faculty expectations and campus resources. Check out AIMS 020 for countless “week one winners.”
The iFocus workshop series, offered on all campuses and online, will assist you in developing and achieving your educational, professional, and personal goals. iFocus was created to meet the needs of students in the areas of academic, multiculturalism, leadership, health and wellness, career and transfer, and technology. Popular workshops include: Orientation to Aims Online, Make & Take Aromatherapy, Mastering the Job Interview, Fuel Your Body, Fuel Your Brain, and many more!
Catalyst is a selective program for students returning to Aims after at least one semester with a minimum 2.0 GPA. To apply to the program students must be nominated by a faculty or staff member. The term “catalyst” is defined as someone or something that encourages progress and change. This unique program helps students foster a mindset of completion and a vision of the “end in mind.” Over the span of two semesters (Spring & Fall) participants are provided the opportunity to improve skills attractive to future employers: teamwork, communication, leadership, organization, decision making, and other personal/professional skills. Membership in Catalyst strengthens your leadership skills, making you “the” candidate for your future career!
Peer coaches serve as guides to all Aims students, supporting them both academically and socially during their various transitions at Aims. Peer coaches encourage students to participate in co-curricular programs and campus events, connect students to campus and community resources, and offer academic support by assisting students with study skills and technology questions related to assignments. Peer Coaches are available for 1-1 support in the Learning Commons and in the First-Year Experience office on the Greeley campus, look for them in their blue shirts!
