ASL- American Sign Language

  
  • ASL 1101 - Basic Sign Language I

    Credits: 3
    Provides students with the basic knowledge of communicating with the deaf community. Students will develop basic vocabulary and conversational skills and will be introduced to aspects of the deaf culture and community. Course is not repeatable for credit.
  
  • ASL 1102 - Basic Sign Language II

    Credits: 3
    Continues the sequence for students who want to learn basic conversational patterns to communicate with the Deaf community. The material covers basic vocabulary and conversational skills, and aspects of the Deaf culture and community. Course is not repeatable for credit.
    Prerequisite(s): ASL 1101 with a grade of “C” or better
  
  • ASL 1121 - American Sign Language I

    Credits: 5
    Exposes the student to American Sign Language. Readiness activities are conducted focusing on visual/receptive skills and basic communication. Utilizes the direct experience method. Students must complete this course with a `B` or higher or pass the ASL proficiency test with a score of at least 80% or better prior to registering for ASL 1122 if planning to enroll in the Interpreter Preparation Program. Course is not repeatable for credit.
  
  • ASL 1122 - American Sign Language II

    Credits: 5
    Develops a basic syntactic knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), basic vocabulary and basic conversational skills. Incorporates vital aspects of deaf culture and community. The direct experience method is used to enhance the learning process. Students must complete this course with a `B` or higher or pass the ASL 1121 proficiency test at 80% or better prior to acceptance into the Interpreting and Transliterating Preparation program. Course is not repeatable for credit.
    Prerequisite(s): ASL 1121 with a grade of “C” or better.
  
  • ASL 2075 - Special Topics

    Credits: 0 to 12
    Provides students with a vehicle to pursue in depth exploration of special topics of interest. Course is repeatable with a maximum of 12 credit hours.
