Learning Outcomes: In the Accounting Program:
- The student should prepare accurate financial statements and reports from various accounting documents and sources.
- The student should analyze the basic accounting concepts and the interrelationship between various financial statements.
- The student should use appropriate software and technology to create and use professional business documents.
- The student should be able to research and analyze concepts, demonstrate proficient knowledge of current regulation and analyze trends.
- The student should research issues relation to accounting scenarios and present possible and relevant solutions.
- The student should demonstrate team building, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, timeliness, and job seeking skills.
- The student should make appropriate recommendations based on business knowledge, ethics, and accounting principles.
- The student should identify and demonstrate ways to motivate employees and co-workers by applying techniques to role plays, simulations, assignments, and discussions.
- The student should demonstrate effective use of various electronic communication platforms including email.
- The student should demonstrate flexibility, prioritizing skills, attention to detail (accuracy, proofreading, focus, ability to use resources, and the ability to process and promote change.
Potential Opportunities: This program is designed to prepare the student for employment in accounting positions which would include: accounts receivable or accounts payable clerk, cash receipts and disbursements clerk, payroll accounting technician, accountant, and budget or credit analyst.
A student seeking a degree or certificate in Accounting must consult with an accounting advisor at the earliest opportunity. The advisor is in a position to help the student determine if the chosen program is an appropriate plan for meeting the student’s objectives. The advisor can also keep the student informed on the timing and sequencing of courses within the program. Course substitutions may be made when the accounting advisor agrees that alternate courses better fit the career goals and objectives of the student.
General Education Requirements: A minimum of 15 credit hours of General Education Courses are required with advisor’s approval.
