Aims Overview

History

In 1965 a citizen’s committee representing all of Weld County’s school districts recommended the formation of a junior college district. In January of 1967, voters of the district overwhelmingly approved the establishment of Aims Community College. Two months later a governing board was elected and it, in turn, selected Dr. Ed Beaty as the College’s first president.

Aims has continued to grow to serve the needs of the community over the past 50 years and now provides educational excellence at locations in Greeley, Fort Lupton, Loveland and Windsor. Curriculum now includes 4,000 day, evening, weekend and online courses annually in more than 200 degree and certificate programs.

Aims continues to prepare for the future by expanding and remodeling facilities and by constantly updating the technology that is available to students in the classroom, around the campuses and online.

Tuition

Aims Community College has the lowest tuition in Northern Colorado, making Aims the most affordable place to accomplish the first 2 years of your college education. Earn a professional certificate, an Associate’s degree, or use your Guaranteed Transfer classes to achieve your Bachelor’s degree at any 4-year Colorado institution for a fraction of the cost to attend there the full 4 years.

Greeley Campus

The Greeley Campus in west Greeley is the center of Aims Community College. The 180-acre campus is home to a dozen academic buildings, including several general classroom buildings, a physical education and recreation center, administrative services complex, and the Welcome Center, which houses almost all student services including Cashier’s, Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, Pathway Advising, Registration and Records, Testing Center, and the Transition Center. 

Aims Community College is a single educational institution consisting of the main campus in Greeley and campuses in Fort Lupton, Loveland, and Windsor. Degrees and certificates are conferred by Aims Community College. The College does not offer all programs at all campuses. Students who begin their education Online, in Fort Lupton, Loveland or Windsor may need to complete program requirements on the Greeley campus.

Wireless Infrastructure at Aims Community College

Aims Community College has prolific, high-speed wireless available in all of its campus buildings. Wireless Local Area Networks or WLANs enable Aims students, staff, and faculty to connect to the Internet, ensuring compatibility and speed for all standard mobile devices. This technology allows students to collaborate on classroom assignments in more casual settings like Arty’s Bistro, study lounges and the College Center atrium. On our Greeley campus, outdoor areas also have wireless coverage.

Aims Community College in Fort Lupton houses everything a student needs to be completely successful without leaving campus.  The campus in Fort Lupton has two buildings as part of our full-service campus. We offer guaranteed transfer and general education courses so you can earn your associate degree, along with several Career and Technical Education courses, which can lead to certificates and AAS degrees. Certificates and degrees are offered in agriculture, nurse aide, and welding.  Other programs available at the Fort Lupton Campus include non-credit continuing education courses, Bueno HEP/GED, and Bueno College Assistance Program (CAMP).

In September 2013, the new Platte Building was opened to provide more classroom and state-of-the-art laboratory and workshop spaces.  The agriculture and welding programs are both housed in the Platte Building and are continually growing to meet the employment demand of our community.  Our agriculture program is the only one in Colorado to offer a Precision Ag Certificate.

The Prairie Building, which was recently renovated, houses academic classrooms as well registration, advising, textbooks, and financial aid services.  It also houses the Learning Commons which offers tutoring, testing, a computer lab, and library.

The campus is just one-half mile east of downtown Fort Lupton, conveniently located to serve the southeast Weld County community.  Aims Community College in Fort Lupton houses everything a student needs to be completely successful without leaving campus!

Aims Community College’s west campus is located in downtown Loveland at 104 East 4th Street. The Loveland Campus, donated by the McKee Charitable Trust, opened in the fall of 1987. The Loveland Campus is a full-service campus. All degree/certificate seeking students at the Loveland campus are assigned an advisor and services are offered virtually or by appointment. Student Services staff provide the conduit for students to get direct access to Financial Aid, disability accommodation needs, veteran support services, TRIO student support services, and Registration and Records.  The Loveland Campus also features student resources and services such as the Learning Commons with library services and a computer lab, a Testing Center, Arty’s Pantry (food, household and school supply pantry), a Zoom Room for virtual connection, and gym passes to access the Loveland Recreation Center.

The academic offerings include the Associate of Arts and Science degrees, Associate of Arts Business Transfer degree, Graphics Software Applications Certificate, Basic Animation Certificate, Network Analyst Certificate, and pre-requisite courses for Allied Health degrees. The Graphics Software Applications Certificate and the Basic Animation Certificate are Career Academies which is a program to offer high school students a Career and Technical Education concurrent enrollment certificate in two semesters. The campus offers these certificates as open enrollment so the courses are a mix of high school students and post-secondary  students. The Network Analyst Certificate ties in with Thompson School District’s concurrent pathways at the Thompson Career Campus allowing  students to earn a certificate while in high school.

The Loveland Campus offers courses in various formats: face-to-face, online, and hybrid (combination online and face-to-face). In addition, we offer both credit and non-credit courses during the day, at night, and on weekends to accommodate different schedules and interests. Non-credit courses may include professional development, certifications, and personal enrichment classes.

The Aims Windsor Campus is a state-of-the-art training and educational facility located off of I-25 and US-34. It is a full-service campus that includes advising, student counseling, as well as a physical fitness area available to all Windsor students, Arty’s Eatery and Arty’s Underground for food, and a Learning Commons consisting of a computer lab, library, testing and tutoring services. Windsor Campus houses the Aims Automotive and Technology Center, the Gateway Building, the Public Safety Institute, and Simulation City.  All of these provide career and technical education along with general education courses.

The Aims Automotive and Technology Center is home to the award-winning Aims Automotive programs with the latest equipment, industry-proven instructors, and generous tool program to prepare students for success in the automotive industry. The facility is a high-tech learning environment that includes smart-technology classrooms, wired and wireless computer labs, a science lab and conference room. 

The Gateway Building is brand new and features cutting edge technology for Aviation programs including degrees in Air Traffic Controller, General Aviation Pilot, Professional Pilot and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Sciences.  The state-of-the-art flight and air traffic simulation labs, and the UAS drone flight training, engineering and fabrication labs will help prepare students for extremely competitive fields that touch on aviation/drone related careers. 

The Public Safety Institute provides emergency response training for firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and paramedics. The renowned Public Safety Institute features the latest equipment and facilities for students in public safety, including an anatomage table, gas-prop burn tower, simulation manikins and rooms, fire trucks, ambulances, and more. Hands-on training, state-of-the-art facilities, and knowledgeable instructors working in the field all combine to create a unique experience for students studying public safety.

The Innovative “Simulation (Sim) City” Training Yard includes actual buildings that allow training simulations for the Aims Criminal Justice, Police, Fire and EMS Programs.  The buildings include two houses, one commercial building, and an extremely challenging three-story Search and Rescue Maze.  Sim City also has an airstrip for the fixed-wing and rotary-wing drones that are utilized in the UAS program.

Additionally, Windsor students can participate in a rich campus life through workshops, recruiting events, holiday and school celebrations, clubs and other student programming. Come see what this amazing campus has to offer!

Aims Online

Online learning is a popular way for students to access courses. Online classes appeal to students who have work, transportation or other obligations that make it difficult to be on campus on a regular basis.

Online classes are continually evolving and may include in-person test proctoring, field trips, or group projects. One consistent aspect of online courses is the need to access course materials, engage in discussions, and complete assignments remotely using a computer or mobile device, and a reliable internet connection. 

Students who do well in online courses will typically have strong organizational skills, are self-motivated and willing to engage in the course largely independently. Online courses are structured and will cover the same material at the same pace as a face-to-face class. Aims follows the Colorado Common Course descriptions, learning outcomes, and topical outlines for all courses regardless of delivery method. The online learner may need to set aside time several times a week to “attend class,” work on assignments, or prepare for and complete assessments. Online classes are flexible with respect to when students engage, but still have weekly assignments and due dates.
