Learning Outcomes:
- The student should demonstrate a working knowledge of directory structure and file management.
- The student should possess an understanding of how networks communicate.
- The student should possess an understanding of the foundations and physical topology of networks.
- The student should demonstrate the ability to be able to apply industry standard development, office, and monitoring & management applications appropriate to the course.
- The student should demonstrate an understanding of databases.
- The student should demonstrate an understanding of the web and web based applications.
- The student should possess an understanding of how the network communicates.
- The student should demonstrate proficiency in using one or more popular operating systems.
- The student should read and apply technical documentation and instructions.
- The student should create appropriate documentation, instructions, or reports.
- The student should utilize the foundational knowledge of logic and programming applications in a variety of modern platforms.
- The student should demonstrate the ability to analyze and solve a problem utilizing logic.
- The student should demonstrate the ability to use problem solving to debug a script or program.
- The student will be provided opportunities to make appropriate CIS recommendations based on provided scenario.
- The student will be provided opportunities to collaborate with teammates to produce CIS products.
Potential Opportunities: The Computer Information Systems A.A.S. degree program is designed to prepare the student for entry level positions in one of the following areas: Cyber Security, Database Administration, Web Development, Networking and Programming.
It is important to understand that the computer courses require extensive lab time beyond the scheduled class time.
Registration Requirement: The Computer Information Systems degree requires assessment testing in Reading and Arithmetic.
Students who earn a D or lower grade in a course that is a prerequisite to another course may not enroll in the higher level course. They are strongly advised to repeat the prerequisite course and demonstrate mastery of the material by earning a grade of C or better.
General Education Requirements: A minimum of 15 credit hours of General Education Courses are required with advisor’s approval.
