Course Information

Course Load

A full-time student typically enrolls in 12 to 18 credit hours per semester. Students who are employed are encouraged to adjust their course load based on their work schedule and should consult with an academic advisor when planning their coursework. Students who wish to complete a two-year degree within two academic years (excluding summer terms) are encouraged to take a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester.

Course Repeatability

Courses Repeatable for Credit
Some courses are designated as repeatable for credit in their course descriptions. These courses may be taken multiple times, with students earning additional credit hours for each successful completion, up to the specified limit. The number of allowable repeats and credit limits are outlined in each course description. If a student exceeds the repeat limit, no additional credit hours will be awarded, although all completions will still appear on the transcript.

Courses Not Repeatable for Credit
Courses identified as non-repeatable for credit may still be retaken; however, credit will only be awarded for the first successful completion. Repeated attempts of these courses are governed by the Aims Repeated Courses Policy and Procedure, which can be found at: https://www.aims.edu/resource-library/601-and-601-01-repeated-courses-policy-and-procedure.  All attempts will be documented on the student’s official transcript.

Course Numbering

  • 3000-3999: Typically taken by third-year (junior) students.
