Advising at Aims Community College is centered on building trusting relationships to educate and empower students as they explore, define, and pursue their academic and career goals. Our Student Success Coaches guide students through the college experience by sharing knowledge of college culture and processes, assisting with career path identification, and discussing academic curricula aligned with each student’s goals.

Students are grouped by major pathways and matched with a Success Coach specializing in that area. New degree-seeking students are required to meet with a Success Coach before registering for their first semester and are encouraged to meet each semester to stay on track for graduation and make the most of their college experience.

Using a case management approach, Success Coaches collaborate closely with students to optimize planning and access to services tailored to individual needs, helping students excel and succeed.

Advising appointments follow a structured format that builds progressively, helping students develop key skills for academic and career success. Key outcomes include increased self-awareness and resilience. Success Coaches assist students in creating academic plans to guide course selection, ensuring timely completion of program requirements. They also monitor academic progress, address challenges, and connect students to academic, career, financial, social, and wellness resources, as well as faculty mentors.
