The study of design and the arts allows students to explore human expression and invention, strengthen sensory awareness, enhance creative thinking, and develop their own unique images, objects, and artistic expressions.
Some transfer-level courses may fulfill general education requirements; others serve as program electives or apply toward a four-year degree in design, visual arts, or music. Course offerings vary - some are available every semester, others annually, biannually, or on demand. (See Aims Two-Year Academic Course Schedules for details.)
Curricula are designed to meet transfer university requirements and support the workforce needs of Northern Colorado’s creative industries. Students planning to transfer are encouraged to consult with Visual and Performing Arts faculty to choose appropriate course combinations.

Program Overview
The Music program is designed for students pursuing a career in music. The curriculum emphasizes three core areas: Applied Lessons, Music Theory, and Performance.
Notes
Success in music courses is supported by a range of abilities, including visual, spatial, auditory, kinesthetic, and creative thinking skills. While these are not formally assessed, they contribute significantly to successful course completion.
Private instruction in guitar, voice, piano, or other instruments may be repeated at the 2044 level after completing prior levels.
Performance ensemble courses may be repeated at the 2053 level following completion of prerequisite courses.
Theater
Theater courses are offered through the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Aims. Students may select from a variety of classes, including acting and theatre production, to fulfill elective or general education degree requirements.
Beyond the classroom, students have the opportunity to participate in the Aims Community Theater Group (ACT Group), which stages productions throughout the academic year. ACT Group collaborates with the academic programs at Aims to provide hands-on learning experiences in acting, technical theater, and performance art. As an open company, ACT Group welcomes participation from both Aims students and members of the community.
