Program Overview
The Behavioral Sciences Department at Aims Community College provides a broad spectrum of instructional opportunities. Although Psychology is the primary discipline, Women and Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, and Advancing Academic Achievement (AAA) are also included within the department.
Advancing Academic Achievement (AAA) offers courses designed to help students develop as learners by building knowledge, skills, and confidence essential for personal and academic success. More information about AAA courses can be found at AAA 1001/AIMS 101 | Aims Community College.
Students interested in careers such as teaching, government/public service, public health, human services, psychology, counseling, sociology, and social work will find foundational coursework here that cultivates critical thinking, cultural awareness, and global perspectives. These courses prepare students for employment and provide the essential groundwork for transfer to four-year universities.
Students who are unsure of their major or uncertain about career choices will benefit from Behavioral Sciences courses as they explore educational and career options they may not have previously considered. These courses help students meet requirements listed for A.A., A.A.S., A.S., A.G.S., and certificate programs within this catalog and serve as electives within nearly any degree program.
