Criminal Justice Program Overview

Enrollment for Non-Majors
Students are not required to be Criminal Justice majors to enroll in Criminal Justice courses.

AA Degree Majors
Students pursuing an A.A. degree should consult with the Program Chair to determine the appropriate Criminal Justice courses, in alignment with the State Articulation Agreement and the designated degree worksheet.

Program Description
This degree program focuses on:

  1. The concept of justice-its meaning, practice, and demands as they relate to the social, political, legal, and economic institutions shaping our society.

  2. Approaches for dealing humanely and effectively with individuals who come into contact with any part of the justice system.


Peace Officer Academy

Academy and Registration
Students interested in the Peace Officer Academy must consult with the Academy Director at (970) 339-6253.

Program Length: One to two semesters.

Mission Statement
To educate and train peace officers to think critically and act wisely in the performance of their duties.

Program Objective
The Academy provides prospective peace officers with both foundational academic knowledge and technical skills necessary to qualify for the Colorado POST written exam and begin professional work assignments.

College Credit
Graduates of the Academy earn a certificate of completion and 34 semester credits.

Application and Registration
Students must contact the Academy Director for details regarding application and registration.

This program incorporates requirements mandated by the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board and the Colorado Community College Common Course Numbering System (CCCNS). Course offerings are subject to change. Students should verify current course details with the Academy Director.
