Associate of General Studies in Liberal Arts
Degree Code: AGSLAGS

The Associate of General Studies (A.G.S.) degree is awarded to students who complete a flexible program designed to combine workplace skills development with coursework in the arts and sciences. The A.G.S. degree may transfer to a four-year institution if an established articulation agreement exists. Otherwise, the degree is not intended for transfer.

Liberal Arts is the designated major for the A.G.S. degree. Some A.G.S. programs include pre-professional areas of study that allow students to tailor coursework toward a specific occupation or field. Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university should consult with an academic advisor and confirm transfer policies directly with the receiving institution, as many professional or technical courses included in the A.G.S. degree may not transfer.

General Requirements for the A.G.S. Degree

  • A minimum of sixty (60) semester credit hours in approved coursework are required for graduation.
  • GPA requirements for graduation are a minimum of 2.0 in coursework applicable to the A.G.S. degree.
  • Fifteen (15) semester credit hours applicable to the degree and completed prior to graduation must be earned at Aims Community College.
  • Courses numbered below 1000 (developmental or remedial) may not be applied toward completion of the A.G.S. degree.
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses may be applied when aligned with the student’s educational and career objectives.
