Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts
Degree Code: AALAAA
The Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree is awarded to students who complete a program designed to transfer to a four-year college or university for the purpose of earning a baccalaureate degree. Although the requirements of the Associate of Arts (A.A.) and Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees are similar, the A.S. degree includes additional coursework in science and mathematics.
All General Education courses in the A.A. degree are intended for transfer. Some elective arts and sciences courses and most career and technical education courses may not be accepted for transfer by all baccalaureate institutions. Students should refer to Approved Degree Electives for appropriate elective options. Once students have selected a transfer institution, they should confirm transfer requirements directly with that institution and obtain written documentation of required coursework. Students may also consult Transfer Degrees | Colorado Department of Higher Education for transfer guides to arts and sciences majors at Colorado’s four-year colleges and universities.
General Requirements for the A.A. Degree
- Sixty (60) semester credit hours in approved coursework are required for graduation.
- GPA requirements for admission to four-year institutions may be higher than 2.0. Students should contact the receiving institution for specific admission requirements.
- Fifteen (15) semester credit hours applicable to the degree and completed prior to graduation must be earned at Aims Community College.
- Courses numbered below 100 may not be applied toward completion of the A.A. degree.
- Courses with a 3-character bracketed code (e.g., English Composition I [CO1]) in which a grade of C or higher is earned are guaranteed to transfer to all public Colorado colleges and universities. Courses completed with a grade of D may apply toward A.A. degree requirements at Aims but are not guaranteed to transfer. Students should verify transferability with their intended institution or consider repeating courses to improve grades.
